Recent projects

We've been very busy lately! We repainted the kitchen, had lots of visitors staying with us, and the baby and I left for 5 days. Traveling was so much fun and we saw lots of family, which was so great. The baby also cut his first tooth! I suspected something was going to happen, but he was such a trooper still :)

I have lots of projects on the go. Right now my main focus is the home daycare I plan on opening in the near future. I'm not sure when exactly. I have to get the house together and also collect more toys. I'm having lots of fun planning so far, though. I plan on doing an inspiration post soon.

Here are some pictures of my recent aquisitions. I am in the middle of completing them and will post the 'afters' when all is said and done.

Creating a photo wall

I've always wanted a photo wall. I have tons of pictures to display and I think photo walls are homey and cozy! So last month I was on the hunt for picture frames. Originally I wanted a funky photo wall, sort of hodge podge and random. But most of the photo frames I found around the house and at second hand stores were black! I ended up sticking with a black theme.

I took pictures as I created the photo wall:

First I gathered all the frames and laid them out on the floor:

Next, I took some old wrapping paper, traced each picture frame and cut them out:

Then I transfered them to the wall:

And started hammering!

And the final product:

I have yet to fill all the frames. I need to find the perfect pictures!

Thrift store finds

I went to an antique store this morning. I had such a burst of creative inspiration about five days ago and rushed to the store to see if they had what I wanted, but it has been closed for five days! I was so disappointed... but I was very happy to see that it was finally opened again today.

There were lots of great things. But nothing for me. They did have what I wanted, but it was too large. I looked at their antique chairs and they all seemed nice, but out of my price range. Who knows, maybe the prices were just right and I am too cheap?

So, feeling discouraged I went to a small thrift store. It is run by volunteers and all proceeds go to the local library. They sell mainly clothes, books, and some household items. Things are priced very, very reasonably. I find that some of the more mainsteam second hand stores have prices that rival retail at times. I was excited to find that children's books were $0.25 each at this place!

Here are my finds:

I got these clothes for the boy. They are some of my favourite brands (Joe Fresh, Pekkle, Gap Kids) and I got all four for $4.

I picked through the books carefully. I got two old, worn copies of classic novels. I have some plans for these. And I found a cute book for my son. $ 0.75 for all three.

My favourite find was this clutch for $0.50. I know nothing about purses, and there are no tags, but it looks vintage to me. I think it is really pretty.

Grand total = $5.25

I have lots of baby clothes I am going to donate back to the store. It's for a good cause :)

Welcome me to the blogging world...

Ten things about me:

1. I am a wife, mother, daughter, friend.
2. My son will be four months old in three days.
3. Sleep is the ultimate goal in this house.
4. I enjoy creating things!
5. I LOVE a great deal!
6. I live for garage sales and second hand stores.
7. I aim to have a child friendly house.
8. I love to bake, but hate to clean.
9. I am a history buff; particularly family history.
10. I am quite indecisive.

My husband and I have been married for over a year. We have a beautiful infant son together. We own our little home, in our small town. We have been homeowners for nearly a year now, and are loving (almost) every minute of it!

So bear with me as I navigate through the blogging world.
